Anaerobic Bacteria Counts

An anaerobe is an organism which grows in the absence of oxygen.  It finds oxygen very toxic - an obligate anaerobe only grows in media free of dissolved oxygen - e.g.. bacteria found in mud, mined minerals such as Talc, Kaolin.

Do you know that bacterium Shewanella oneidensis attacks iron and manganese compounds, thus raising environmental safety issues resulting in very serious consequences.

In our laboratory we create anaerobic environments using anaerobic jars devoid of gaseous oxygen and the number of Bacterial life in the absence of air is counted.
